Established in 1974, the UNV Programme in Sri Lanka has contributed to sustainable human development, poverty reduction, demobilization and reintegration programmes. The United Nations Volunteers Programme in Sri Lanka continues to play a pivotal role in giving opportunities for Sri Lankan nationals to become volunteers both locally and internationally. This apart from providing employment opportunities helps to expose the volunteers to other cultures, sharing of knowledge and experiences with partners in the South and South East Asian region.
